Year 3

Year 3 Information  Year 3 at Home

Welcome to Year 3 with Miss Dove

Welcome to the Year 3 Class pages.  Please see our Information page and @Home section for useful resources and activities.

We would like every child in Year 3 to reach their full potential whilst having lots of fun being creative and expressing their individuality along the way!  The class are very keen to learn new skills and are excited to put them in place, especially in writing.   Year 3 love using ‘Maths No Problem’ and their lessons are engaging and very practical.  This helps the children to understand and apply their mathematical knowledge and skills to their work.  We are focusing on developing our love for books and reading.  We enjoy a multi modal range of text types to enrich our reading and ignite our imagination.  We like to share our opinions on whichever text we are looking at and make predictions based on information we know.  Our topic work also inspires us to produce some fabulous pieces of writing and creative art work.

Year 3 Routines

PE – is held on Wednesday and Thursday.

Swimming – during the Spring term, the class will take part in weekly swimming sessions on Friday.

Reading – we would like to encourage children to regularly read their books at home.

Homework – is set termly, which children required to complete a variety of tasks compiled of a mixture of written, creative and researched based activities, with each task given a value of points.   The children are asked to complete a minimum of 100 points per term. There will also be occasional other pieces of work for when we need to consolidate any learning done in the class.

Class Dojo – We are using the Class Dojo App, which works via tablets, smart phones and computers and is free to download. Using this system we will be able to share images of your child and their work and we look forward to opening our classroom. If you would like to join, download the Class Dojo App or click the image to open by a web browser, create a parents account, tap add child and enter your child’s code. If you don’t have a code, please contact us by email and we will happily send it to you.

Year 3 had a really fun afternoon when parents and family members joined them for their Stone Age Tea Party. They had a great time with the biscuits. Thank you to everyone who was able to attend. Pictures to follow.

Tennis Stars

Well done to the Year 3 Tennis team who represented Holy Family in a tennis event against other local primary schools.

Lego Fun!

Year 3 had a great time learning how to program using the WeDo Lego program.

Father Kevin came in to school to pray the Rosary with the class. The children became a set of human rosary beads which helped them to focus on what to pray for.

Computer Research

The computers came in really useful when the children wanted to research different Saints in their RE lesson. They then made posters by copying and pasting pictures into a document and also added different fonts.  The class produced some lovely work.

Music Fun

Here are Year 3 having their first ukulele lesson with Mr Henderson.

Recipe In RE

In RE the children worked in groups to create recipes for a happy family and put these on display in the classroom.

Marvellous Science

The children had a great time on Roald Dahl Day.  Their science experiments included making cola erupt. See more pictures from the day in our Roald Dahl gallery.

Learning To Play Rugby

During PE, children in Year 3 have been learning how to throw a rugby ball as it is completely different to throwing any other kind of ball.  Everyone is really enjoying rugby so far!
