About Mini Vinnies
Mini Vinnies are a worldwide group for primary school children, developed by the St Vincent de Paul Society (SVP). Mini Vinnies are encourage to see Christ in themselves and others through prayer, discussion and looking at social issues. Please click the links above for further information about Mini Vinnies and St Vincent de Paul.
Mini Vinnies at Holy Family are a group of eight children who meet regularly to learn more about prayer and the importance of practical works. The children are supported by Mrs Backhouse and Mrs Cole, a parent volunteer.
Each meeting starts with a prayer, a scripture reading and a discussion/reflection on the readings. The Mini Vinnies discuss how they can help others, family, friends, the local community and people in need, particularly those in developing countries.
The Work Of The Mini Vinnies
For Christmas, the group appealed for donations of toiletries in aid of a charity to help homeless people, also food items and selection boxes in aid of Darlington Foodbank. They had an amazing response and families were very generous with their donations. Thank you to everyone who sent items for these worthy charities.
The Mini Vinnies attended Youth Sunday Mass in Church and afterwards provided refreshments in the Parish Centre and raised approximately £200.00 in aid of Fr Raphael in Mozambique. Thank you to everyone who supported them.
Our newly inducted Mini Vinnies are beginning their SVP Journey. They attended Mass at Carmel College where they received a special blessing for the work they will do. Further information about their work will also feature on our Newsletters.
